AARO Healthcare Accomodation

AARO Healthcare Accomodation

Within the creative industries there is plenty of interest in working on social tasks. Healthcare is one such important question that the Fund has been engaged with for a long time. With the current systemic changes in healthcare, the Fund is intensifying its ambition to put topical social assignments on the agenda. The goal is to improve the quality of healthcare and living environments with the input of designers.

Open Calls are used to put specific issues on the agenda and bring together multidisciplinary teams of architects, urban planners and landscape architects to carry out research into a topical assignment. Creative Industries Fund NL supervises the teams, initiates collaborations, organizes meetings for the interchange of expertise, experience and the presentation of results.

Three pathways have been set out within this programme:

Hedy d'Ancona-prijs voor excellente zorgarchitectuur – Hedy d'Ancona Prize for excellent healthcare architecture (2016) (in Dutch)
Ontwerp en Dementie: The Art and Science of Dementia Care i.s.m. zorgaanbieder Cordaan – Design and Dementia: The Art and Science of Dementia Care in association with care provider Cordaan (2014–2016) (in Dutch)
Open Oproep Het Nieuwe Gasthuis – Open Call: The New Hospital (2015) (in Dutch)

Action Agenda
The Action Agenda for Spatial Design 2017-2020 is the successor of the AARO policy 2013-2016 and to what was formerly known as the 'national architecture policy'. The crux of this agenda formulated by the Dutch Ministries of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and of Infranstructure and the Environment (IenM) is to strengthen the social position and quality of design at regional and local levels in the Netherlands. Creative Industries Fund NL is involved with three programmes: Innovative Forms of Commissioning, Healthcare Accommodation and Education Environments.
