Open Call Participation in GDC San Francisco 2016

Creative Industries Fund NL is calling on creatives and developers from the games industry to submit a proposal for participation in the Local Multiplayer event during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco (14–18 March 2016). Submit the game, including your motivation, by 19 October at the latest. This Open Call is the only opportunity for support from Creative Industries Fund NL for participation in the GDC.

GDC San Francisco is the longest-running games industry event for professionals. In addition, GDC was one of the first industry conferences to include independent games within its remit. With more than 26,000 visitors in 2015, the GDC has grown into the world's largest event for professionals from the games industry. The most important component of the GDC is the conference, during which visitors take part in hundreds of sessions, panels and tutorials in the space of just a week.

During GDC San Francisco 2016, the Fund is organizing a Local Multiplayer event and Prototype Showcase to support the Dutch games industry and raise its profile. The Fund is offering stand space during the Local Multiplayer Event for a maximum of 10 game developers at a location near the conference venue. Selected participants will have the opportunity to present their games during this event, receive support for their travel and accommodation costs, and a pass for the Indie Summit during GDC San Francisco. Pitch training for these participants will be organized in advance of the GDC.

Submit the game, including your motivation, by 19 October 2015 at the latest via the Creative Industries Fund NL's online application environment. First select the 'Open Call' option under the 'For which grant programme do you want to apply?' drop-down menu, then select the 'GDC 2016 - Local Multiplayer Event' round. The proposal (submitted as a PDF in A4 portrait format) must comprise:

1. a description of the game;
2. a motivation for participation;
3. a link to an online demo of the game that will be showcased during the Local Multiplayer event or a download link (Dropbox, WeTransfer);
4. concise CVs or a short description of the studios, designers and developers involved (max. 1 page per person or organization).

The submission will be ineligible for evaluation if it does not meet the description above.

For each selected proposal the Fund will reimburse:

travel and accommodation costs for one person during GDC San Francisco;
a pass for the Indie Summit during GDC San Francisco;
participation in the Local Multiplayer Event to showcase your game;
participation in the pitch training prior to GDC San Francisco.

Creative Industries Fund NL will select up to 10 proposals from the submissions. The Games Fund's advisors will evaluate to what extent the proposals meet this Open Call's objectives. They will pay particular attention to the quality of the game that will be presented and the participant's motivation. Participants should preferably satisfy the following guidelines:

the applicant operates as a sole trader, freelancer or VOF partnership;
the enterprise is no more than 5 years old;
has a maximum of 5 employees.

The evaluation takes the form of a tender: the advisors will prioritize up to 10 proposals. The Fund will only communicate about the selected proposals; it will enter into no correspondence about individual proposals not being selected.

The Open Call procedure is described in Creative Industries Fund NL's General Subsidy Regulations. The selected proposals will receive a grant within the framework of the Grant Programme for Internationalization. If you have any questions about the Open Call and the procedure involved, please contact Marjoleine Timmer, 010-4361600,
