Creative Industries Fund NL is inviting designers to submit proposals for a presentation during the Salone del Mobile 2016. The Salone del Mobile in Milan is one of the leading international fairs for furniture and product design. The forthcoming edition runs from 12 to 17 April 2016. This call is the only opportunity to receive a grant for participation in this fair and/or any related activities.

Submissions
You can submit your proposal by 17 November 2015 at the latest via the Fund's online application environment, selecting the 'Open Call' menu and then the 'Open Call: Salone del Mobile 2016' round.

The project proposal must consist of:
a motivation for participation and a description of the long-term strategy for the development of your own design practice and how participation in the Salone relates to this;
a clear-cut, concise description of the presentation's structure and objective;
a description of the intended presentation venue;
in the case of a group presentation, the proposal should explain the designers chosen;
visual material of the designs that will be presented;
a realistic budget. N.B. the grant can only be used for the travel and accommodation costs of designers, transportation costs, rental of the venue and communications. A personal contribution or co-funding is not obligatory, but if the grant requirement is greater than €5,000 then co-funding or a personal contribution is recommended;
CV (max. 2 pages per proposal);
certificate of registration with a Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) that is dated within the last year. If you do not have a KvK registration, then this can still be submitted subsequent to selection.

Format
The project proposal is a PDF document in A4 format, a maximum of 6 pages in length (excluding CV and KvK registration) and no larger than 5 MB in size. The application will be ineligible for evaluation if it fails to meet the description above. N.B. Request your login details for the online application environment and familiarize yourself with the application form in good time. Validation of a new user account can take up to one working day. For more information see the Conditions for online applications.

Evaluation
The Fund will select a number of proposals for the fair presentation in conjunction with external advisers, basing their evaluation on the following criteria:
motivation for participation;
the degree to which the selection of projects represents the Dutch design sector;
the degree to which the project contributes to strengthening the image of the Dutch creative industries abroad;
the degree to which the project is distinctive in its artistic quality and presentational form.

Preference will be given to:
projects that involve unusual forms of collaboration or are focused on a group presentation.
proposals with a realistic budget, where possible justified by valid quotations.

The evaluation takes the form of a tender: several proposals will be prioritized within the available budget. The Fund's secretariat will contact the selected parties. The Fund will only communicate about the selected proposals; it will not enter into any correspondence about the rejection of individual proposals. A maximum of €200,000 is available for this Open Call.

Aims and objectives
With this Open Call, Creatives Industries Fund NL aims to showcase the excellent quality of the Dutch design sector in Milan. The Dutch Ministries of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and of Foreign Affairs (BuZa) commissioned the Fund to administer a programme that is specifically aimed at the internationalization of the creative industries, a scheme from which participation in the Salone del Mobile is being financed. This four-year programme has three key objectives:
strengthen the image of the Dutch design sector
establish and build sustainable collaborative relationships
expand the international sphere of activity of the Dutch design sector

Procedure
The Open Call procedure is described in the Fund's General Subsidy Regulations. The selected proposals will receive a grant from the Grant Programme for Internationalization. For questions about the Open Call and the application procedure, please contact Jasmijn van Weenen, Grant Officer for the Grant Programme for Internationalization, via [email protected] or 010-4361600.

Further information:
To receive a grant you must be registered with a Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK). If that is not the case, then it is still possible to register subsequent to selection.
The Fund's secretariat can offer no advice regarding a draft proposal.
Applicants will receive an acknowledgement of receipt by e-mail within a week after the closing date.
The selected proposals will be announced in week 50, by e-mail and in Creative Industries Fund NL's newsletter.

Open Call Talent Development in International Context 2019

The Creative Industries Fund NL invites architects, designers, makers, critics and/or curators with an exemplary and/or distinctive practice in the creative industry to submit a project application for an international project. A stipulation for support is that the project involves a collaboration and presentation with an international institution, organization or company with an excellent reputation. With the Open Call for Talent Development in an International Context, the Fund is stimulating the artistic and professional development of designers who are embarking on an exceptional collaboration with a foreign partner. This is the second open call in a series of three that will be issued each autumn through to 2020.

open call set-up
For this open call, the Creative Industries Fund NL is making € 75,000 available in 2019. Depending on the project, the collaborations can take a diversity of forms, for instance a research project, presentation or residency. The Fund is making a fixed sum of € 12,500 available for a residency and € 25,000 for other forms of collaboration.

The stipulations for being eligible for a grant are:
the project should take place largely or entirely outside the Netherlands;
the designer/maker/architect must have an exemplary and/or distinctive practice;
the designer/maker/architect has Dutch nationality or a practice that is registered in the Netherlands;
the foreign partner enjoys an excellent reputation;
there needs to be a reasonable amount of co-funding, of which a substantial proportion will be contributed by the foreign partner;
a form of presentation that is relevant for the project is included at the conclusion of the process;
there is no question of a commissioner/client relationship between the two parties.

You can find an overview here and here of projects that were supported in previous rounds of the Open Call Talent Development in an International Context:

You will receive confirmation of receipt by e-mail within one week after the deadline;
In order to receive a grant, you must be registered with a Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK).

evaluation
The evaluation of the applications involves consulting with a committee of external advisers. This panel gives a number of proposals precedence over the others. The committee determines to what extent the proposal:
advances talent development: the project fosters the further artistic or professional development of individual talent;
promotes artistic quality: the project focuses on the continuation, further development and promotion of one's personal ability, while the designer in question will be seen as an inspiring example for colleagues and a broader interested public;
strengthens the international reputation of the contemporary Dutch creative industries.

The committee will specifically consider:
the extent to which the designers, makers, critics and/or curators from the creative industries (digital culture, design, architecture) have an exemplary and/or distinctive practice;
the extent to which the foreign institution, organization or company involved has an outstanding reputation;
the level and means of co-funding by the foreign partner;
the extent to which the proposed plan contributes to the ongoing artistic and professional development of the maker involved;
the quality and form of the collaboration;
the extent to which the proposal is consistent in intent and purpose, the expertise involved and public reach;
the extent to which it is relevant for the Netherlands.

The evaluation takes the form of a tender: a number of proposals will be given precedence above the others within the available budget. The Fund will communicate only on the selected proposals and not correspond on the rejection of individual proposals. The open call follows the procedure described in the Fund's Subsidy Regulations.

available budget
Creative Industries Fund NL has allotted a maximum of € 125,000 for this open call. The maximum grant per application is € 25,000. The grant is emphatically intended for international activities that contribute to the artistic and/or professional development of designers, makers, critics and/or curators who are active in the creative industries. The selected proposals receive a subsidy from an additional budget made available by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for internationalization and talent development in the creative industries. The Ministry wishes to use this budget to support top talent in order to achieve a strong international position. The selection will be announced by 13 November 2019 at the latest by e-mail and via the Fund's website.

more information
In 2019 the Fund is organizing a number of meet-ups with the current selection as well as completed projects from the period 2014-2018. The aim is to allow the various projects to exchange expertise and experiences.

If you have any questions about the open call and procedure, please contact Roxanne Minten or Anselm van Sintfiet by e-mail, or by phone: +31 (0)10 436 1600.

Open Call Researching Remix

Do you use 'remix' as a method to achieve innovative and experimental work? And within your practice, do you reflect on themes such as balance of power, ownership, appropriation and social inequality? For the Researching Remix Open Call, Metro54 and the Creative Industries Fund NL invite makers, collectives, organizers and thinkers to submit a project proposal. The deadline is Tuesday 2 July. The results of the selected works will be presented at the Dutch Design Week in October.

collaboration between the Fund and Metro54
As a platform, Metro54 follows experimental and innovative art, design, fashion, architecture, music and digital expressions very closely. In 2019, Metro54 is organizing the travelling annual programme Re-mix and Re-search: whose cultural appropriation is this?. This programme investigates the theme of cultural appropriation within contemporary urban arts & culture and is being realized in collaboration with the Creative Industries Fund NL.

open call
Remix as a methodology and research method has a significant influence in urban arts & culture. We are interested in projects that are able to relate critically to this influence and, in so doing, reflect on themes such as the balance of power, ownership and cultural appropriation.
For this open call we are looking for new, interdisciplinary and many-voiced remix work that contributes to innovation in the fields of (graphic) productions, graphic design, fashion, architecture, visual culture and digital culture. Themes such as agency, recognition and ownership play an important role in the intended projects. We are also particularly interested in how remix as a research method or methodology plays a role in your practice proposal.

group exhibition
The selected proposals for new work will be presented during the Dutch Design Week 2019 in Eindhoven as part of the exhibition and programme This is a Take-Over: Researching Remix. In this way, curator Metro54 wants to draw attention to design, reflection and research within urban arts & culture.

meetup
If you would like to present an idea or if you have any questions about the open call, come to the in-store meetup on Thursday 6 June from 19:00 to 21:00 at Daily Paper in Amsterdam. Metro54 and Fund staff will be present.

contact
If you have any questions about the content of this open call, you can also contact Metro54. For questions about submitting your proposal, please contact Sean Gillis or Zineb Seghrouchni or by telephone at 010 436 16 00.
