Practical tips for your grant application
The Fund receives a wide variety of questions about submitting an application. Noteworthy are the questions about subsidy and VAT. Ayse Tüzen, who works as a senior member of staff in business operations, tells you more about VAT liability and the approaching deadlines for 2018.
Ayse: ‘Sometimes VAT does have to be paid if you receive subsidy. If you outsource activities, for example, you do need to pay VAT on these amounts. So when you are drawing up your budget, do take VAT liability into consideration for each item in your budget. That can vary per item.’
Should an applicant draw up the budget including or excluding VAT?
Ayse: ‘Make a distinction in your budget between items where VAT does or does not need to be paid. Any assignments abroad are often exempt from VAT, but it differs per country. If in any doubt, always check first with your regional tax office.
The subsidy you receive is the maximum amount you are eligible for. So you are not eligible for a higher subsidy amount in the event of VAT settlements turning out worse than budgeted for.’
